What are the Risks?

- Caucasian (Anglo-Celtic) and male
- History of solar keratosis and non-melanoma skin cancer
- A history of melanoma increases the chances for a second one
- If you have a fair complexion that includes:
- Fair skin that tans and freckles easily
- Skin that does not tan, or tans poorly
- Blue, green, or other light-colored eyes
- Blond or red hair
Or if you have a family history of Melanoma and other skin-cancers:
- At least 1 first degree relative with melanoma
- Genetic mutations in the p16, p53, BRAF, and CDKN2A (Cyclin-dependent kenase inhibitor 2A) gene
- Family history of unusual moles
- Xeroderma pigmentosum

- Being exposed to UV radiation (natural or artificial) for long periods of time
- A history of multiple sunburns as a child
- Having an organ transplant (medicines that suppress the immune systems)
- Using tanning items such as tanning beds and lamps
- Not using protective measures such as sunscreen

Moles
- Large congenital Naevi (Moles)
- Displastic or atypical Naevi
- FAMMM-Familial Atypical Multiple Mole Melanoma Syndrome
